AMA calls for a sugar tax

Two of Australia's peak health bodies have called for a sugar tax to tackle rising rates of obesity, in the same week that the US voters delivered another blow to the beverage industry.

The Australian Medical Association and the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges each released plicies on obesity last week, with both including calls for a sugar levy.

The Australian Dental Association is also in favour of a sugar tax with the incidence of childhood decay increasing at an alarming rate.
